It’s a lot easier than you think.
Who doesn’t love a good sticker? Like emoji, stickers can be a great way to communicate warmth and nuance in a text message, ensuring that any emotion you want to convey isn’t lost between words. Apple has long allowed iOS users to turn their photos into stickers that you can send via iMessage, and while you can add effects to stickers created this way, their scope is limited. If you want something a little more fun, OpenAI recently added a sticker-specific workflow to ChatGPT Images that makes it easy to turn almost any photo into stickers that you can send to friends and family.
How to generate stickers with ChatGPT
The easiest way to generate stickers using ChatGPT is to use the mobile app (iOS and Android). Once the app is open, follow these steps:
- Open the sidebar by tapping the menu icon at the top left of the interface.
- Select Pictures.
- Under the Tendency tab, tap Stickers.
- Select a style, reference image(s), and emoji set. Emoji selection is designed to guide ChatGPT.
After a few moments, ChatGPT will generate a set of nine stickers that you can add to iMessage and WhatsApp. If you are satisfied with the result, press Add to chat appsfollowed either by iMessage Or WhatsApp to import them to your favorite messaging platform. If you select WhatsApp, you will first be asked to name the sticker pack before adding it to the app. Apple’s iMessage won’t be an option if you’re using an Android phone.
If you are not satisfied with the stickers generated by ChatGPT, you can ask it to change them by following these steps:
- Tap one of the stickers.
- Select To modify in the menu that appears.
- Describe the changes you want by typing them in the prompt bar.
Apart from the method described above, you can write your own prompt asking ChatGPT to generate a sticker. It can be helpful to do it this way if you want the chatbot to stick more closely to your original source photo.
As before, if you are satisfied with the result, press Add to chat appfollowed either by iMessage Or WhatsApp to export the sticker. Likewise, tap the image and then To modify to ask ChatGPT to modify its output. If at any time you feel that ChatGPT has completely misunderstood your request, you can tell it to try again from scratch by tapping the three-dot icon, then Try again.
How to send your new stickers to someone
Once you’re happy with a few different stickers, sending them involves going into your favorite messaging app and using the same flow you would use to send regular stickers. In case you need a reminder, here’s how to do it.
For iMessage, open the Messages app and:
- Open a conversation.
- Press the More button.
- Select Stickers.
- Tap the OpenAI logo at the top of the compose window.
- Select the sticker you want to send.
For WhatsApp, it’s even simpler:
- Open a conversation.
- Tap the sticker icon (located on the right side of the compose bar). You may need to select a second sticker icon below if you are given a selection of GIFs.
- Choose the sticker you want to send. You will find it grouped under the name you gave to the pack it is part of.
One final note: any stickers you generate through ChatGPT will count toward your daily and weekly usage limits. Keep this in mind if you have a free account, as you may need to wait for your limit to refresh before ChatGPT can respond to a request.
