Google shut down its Pixel Studio app with the latest update, according to a report from 9to5Google. The AI-powered image generation app launched less than two years ago and received a pretty significant content update last year. The app now redirects users to Gemini.
The software update that integrates Pixel Studio is rolling out now, but it might take a while to reach everyone. Once downloaded, the main interface displays a clearly visible “Open Gemini” button which leads to the Play Store. It also suggests users to try Nano Banana for image generation.
The latest Pixel Studio update marks the end of the Pixel-exclusive app, as users are now redirected to Nano Banana in Gemini.
The last one to join the Google cemetery 🪦

We knew this was going to happen for a while. Google announced the closure of Pixel Studio in February and phased out core features. For example, the photo editor was completely devoid of AI tools a few months ago.
Pixel Studio was introduced in 2024, alongside the Pixel 9 smartphone. It was an application dedicated to AI image generation, like many others. Users can enter prompts to quickly create images and can also create stickers based on pre-existing photos. Join me in handing out one for the shuttered app as it heads to the Google graveyard.
