GM wants you to know it still plans to ditch Apple CarPlay in future electric vehicles

Recent reports claiming that General Motors is reversing its controversial plan to ditch CarPlay in its future electric vehicles appear to be incorrect.

As noted by Joanna Stern, host of the YouTube channel New Things, a GM spokesperson confirmed that its new software interface that displays CarPlay or Android Auto alongside its own native system in the 2027 models of its Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra is specific to the gasoline versions of those pickups.

GM has previously said that CarPlay and Android Auto will continue to be offered in its new gas-powered vehicles for the “foreseeable future,” so 2027 models of these trucks still supporting those platforms isn’t a change in direction.

There’s another problem in the fact that GM’s all-electric 2027 Cadillac LYRIQ still supports CarPlay and Android Auto – it’s unclear whether the Lyriq will still be an exception or if it will simply be one of GM’s last electric vehicles to support phone mirroring systems. Overall, GM continues to insist that its future electric vehicles will not offer CarPlay.

Overall, GM really wants you to know that it’s committed to dropping the extremely popular feature that you’ll probably want in your next electric vehicle.
