Apple is saving its big Siri upgrade for the iOS 27 reveal in June, and it looks like one of the biggest iPhone apps will benefit from it. A new report details the Siri features coming to the camera, the best visual intelligence features and much more.
Siri Mode Coming to the Camera App in iOS 27
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is developing a new Siri camera mode that will debut in iOS 27.
Apple Inc. plans to integrate artificial intelligence more deeply into the iPhone’s camera app, adding a new Siri mode alongside standard photo and video options in its upcoming iOS 27 operating system.
Gurman elaborates by explaining that Apple plans to “move its visual intelligence feature – currently tied to the camera control button – into the camera app itself” in an effort to make the AI functionality more visible.
Today, visual intelligence is also accessible through Control Center.
Apple first added this feature for iPhones with Apple Intelligence that lacked a camera control button. Visual Intelligence can also be tied to the lock screen or action button, but it’s notably absent from the Camera app in iOS 26.
Gurman describes Siri Mode as an enhanced version of Visual Intelligence. The feature today connects to ChatGPT and Google Image Search.
It reports that Apple is “rethinking the experience with a new shutter button inspired by the Apple Intelligence logo” in iOS 27.
The Camera Control shortcut for accessing Visual Intelligence will also remain, but the Camera app integration will introduce the functionality to more users.
Visual Intelligence functionality will include an upgrade
The report adds that Siri mode will add to existing visual intelligence features.
For example, iOS 27 will include “the ability to scan a nutrition label on food packaging to record dietary information” or add contact information by scanning the information. Read the latest Bloomberg report in full here.
Today’s new details follow Gurman’s report yesterday about Apple planning three new AI-related features in the Photos app.
Apple will upgrade Siri across the system, including a standalone app and a persistent chatbot-like experience. Siri may also be able to analyze multiple actions from a single command.
Earlier this year, Apple signed a deal with Google to use Gemini models to help power Siri personal features and upcoming Apple Intelligence features.
Apple will unveil iOS 27 with the new Siri on Monday June 8. That’s when Apple will kick off WWDC, its annual developer conference at Apple Park in Cupertino, California.
