Apple plans to adopt OLED panels capable of displaying a much wider range of colors, according to a new report from research firm TrendForce. The new panels reportedly cover 95% of the BT.2020 color standard, which describes a much broader color spectrum than the DCI-P3 standard that Apple’s displays currently target. In practice, this means deeper, more accurate reds, greens, and blues. Achieving these richer colors requires more precise control of the light emitted by a display, as well as better energy efficiency. TrendForce therefore expects the next round of OLED competition to rely less on familiar specifications such as…
The next major Mac Studio update is still a few years away, but a 2026 refresh is still on the cards, according to BloombergIt’s Mark Gurman. Writing in the latest edition of its Power On newsletter, Gurman said Apple has two Mac Studio refreshes in the works: an M5 Ultra version due this year and a larger M7 Ultra model expected in 2028. Apple appears ready to ignore the high-end M6 chips altogether, hence the two-year gap between the two models. Gurman reported earlier this month that Apple was canceling its high-end M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, instead releasing…
A purported image of the iPhone 18 Pro motherboard has leaked online, showing that the A20 Pro chip will use new packaging technology that should deliver notable performance gains over the previous model. The leaked image, which was shared by the “WHYLAB” and “Ice Universe” accounts on Weibo, appears to show the A20 Pro chip embedded in TSMC’s new packaging architecture, known as Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module (WMCM) technology. Traditionally, Apple uses package-on-package (PoP) designs, in which the DRAM sits directly on top of the application processor. The advantages of this method are lower power consumption and reduced latency, but it…
Backyard Production/Getty Images The Amazon Fire TV Stick line is one of the most popular families of streaming devices on the market. For many years, these budget-friendly gadgets were also some of the easiest streamers to load apps. Sideloading is simply the process of adding third-party software that is not listed on an official app store, giving users more freedom in choosing the apps and services that make up their streaming entertainment. Unfortunately, the future doesn’t look bright for Fire Stick-powered sideloading, as Amazon’s new Vega operating system was designed…
Djordjé Krstic/Getty Images Apple began testing the iOS 27 software release in early June, immediately after revealing the upcoming iPhone operating system at WWDC 2026. The first iOS 27 developer beta was made available for download right after the keynote. While the revamped Siri experience and new Apple Intelligence features may be the headline features of iOS 27, the operating system has other features that might appeal to iPhone users. This includes a new RCS messaging feature that Android users who chat with iPhone owners can enjoy. The new feature…
Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18e will have the same display refresh rate as the existing iPhone 17e, according to a major Chinese leaker. Discussing Apple’s product plans for 2027 in a Weibo post, Digital Chat Station claimed that Apple’s next generation of low-cost iPhones will feature the same 60Hz low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) TFT panel as the current model. This means that the device will not benefit from the 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate and Always-On display technology that is expected to feature in the rest of the iPhone 18 lineup, similar to the iPhone 17 series. This is despite the fact…
anatoliy_gleb/Shutterstock Have you ever noticed a blue (or gray) arrow at the top of your iPhone screen or in Dynamic Island? This indicates that your device is providing directions or that an app, background service, or website is actively using location services. Unlike other indicators, for example Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, the arrow only appears when location services are used. This way, you always know when an app is accessing or sharing your iPhone’s location. And in just a few clicks you can find out which application it is. To do…
Tante_spray/Getty Images With the mass cultural boom, the 1960s pushed boundaries everywhere. Before the moon landing, the space race pushed the limits of what humans could create. The Cold War spurred investment in military technology, some of which civilians did not become aware of until decades later. Companies, too, were quietly investing in new ideas, with muscle cars, computers, and various visionary gadgets from the 1960s eventually hitting the market. While the word “technology” in America at that time conjured up images of luxury heavy vehicles, metal sci-fi robots, and…
Yulia Vassilieva/Getty Images If you think iPhones are expensive in the United States, you may be shocked to see some of the international iPhone prices Apple charges around the world. The same 256GB iPhone 17 Pro that costs $1,099 in America would cost more than twice as much in Turkey ($2,366) and Brazil ($2,285), according to Apple Price Compare. Several European countries also have significantly higher prices than the United States, ranging from the United Kingdom, at $1,474, to Hungary, at $1,772. Japan ($1,131) and Canada ($1,162) have the prices…
