Amazon Prime Video is one of several streaming services vying for your monthly customer base in 2026. Unlike Netflix, Hulu, and some of the other major streaming platforms, Prime Video lets you buy or rent movies and shows, in addition to streaming. All the media you have purchased is stored in your Amazon account and you can watch the titles online and offline if you download them. But actually you don’t own a library full of cinematic or episodic content. Amazon, as well as any other media provider that lets you buy movies and shows like Apple TV, is really…

For almost a year, we’ve been hearing about the Mulberry project: Apple’s AI-powered health coach. In February, it was reported that these efforts had been scaled back. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the features should still be on track for iOS 27, although they may not be released until later in the cycle. On the other hand, Apple will apparently significantly improve the Apple Watch’s heart rate tracking with watchOS 27, which could dovetail well with Apple’s eventual Health Coach. Improved heart rate tracking This weekend’s Power On newsletter offers few details on how the Apple Watch’s heart rate tracking…

According to this weekend’s Power On newsletter, Apple’s image generation models – used in Genmoji and Image Playground – will receive a “big boost” in visual quality. Currently, they have nothing exciting. We recently heard that Apple will implement new Genmoji suggestions based on your Photo Library and other key details – but that won’t be the only upgrade coming to Genmoji this year. According to Mark Gurman, Apple models will benefit from a “big boost” in terms of visual quality: I also reported that Apple is preparing to support third-party AI models – beyond OpenAI’s ChatGPT – for image…

In response to the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), Apple is reportedly considering replacing AirPlay with other third-party streaming protocols at the system level. This feature can only be deployed in the European Union, similar to third-party app marketplaces. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple could adopt AirPlay as the system-level default, and alternative streaming protocols could leverage iOS natively, starting with iOS 27. From the Power On newsletter: Apple, seeking to meet the latest requirements of the European Union’s Digital Markets Act, is integrating support for third-party AirPlay streaming alternatives into iOS 27, I’m told. This means that…

Although my favorite way to use an iPhone is without a case or screen protector, I actually like both on the iPhone 17 Pro and can recommend them. They’re cheap enough to try without committing for a year or more. Five years ago, Apple introduced Ceramic Shield glass to the iPhone screen. It touted four times better drop performance with the promise of fewer broken iPhone screens. I haven’t broken an iPhone screen yet, but I regularly see two or three deep scratches after a year of use. The front cover of this year’s Ceramic Shield 2 promises three times…

It’s easy to misjudge the size of the mount you need for your TV. Maybe you bought a stand that’s too narrow or not long enough for your TV, making it look unstable or heavy, or maybe you bought one that’s too high or too low to the ground, causing neck strain or uncomfortable viewing. But buying the wrong size TV stand can also pose a safety risk, because a stand that is the same size or smaller than the width of your TV (including its frame) can cause it to tip over. Luckily, there’s a simple formula that can…

Although a dedicated “AirPods” app doesn’t appear to be in the cards, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is working on software improvements related to how users can change settings on their AirPods and AirPods Pro. Bloomberg reports that iOS 27 will significantly change the layout of the AirPods menu in the Settings app. The new design will be “more functional, better organized, and cleaner.” The AirPods settings screen automatically appears at the top of the Settings app when a pair of AirPods is connected to your phone. But over time, the layout of controls inside that screen became…

Smartwatches are useful for anyone who wants to quickly view notifications, monitor their health and fitness, and check the time. Having access to apps just by glancing at your wrist means you don’t need to take out your phone to check notifications or the time. Yet screen-less wearable gadgets, and even analog watches, offer similar functionality without the distractions of notifications and constant online presence. Smartwatches aren’t the only devices you can use to track your fitness data. There are several alternatives available that work similarly, but aren’t as noticeable as a huge gadget on your wrist. Fitness rings like…

The fact that a technology has been largely replaced by new innovations certainly does not mean that the old technology is dead forever. Take the example of vinyl records. Even in the digital age, this ionic analog format is making a comeback. Likewise, it seems traditional alarm clocks are having a moment again, especially among Gen Z. This isn’t the first retro technology that young people have adopted in recent years. Besides vinyl records and other forms of physical media, they also started using old-fashioned digital cameras and various other gadgets that you might have assumed were relics of the…
