The commission Apple earns from the App Store is falling in markets where it has been forced to loosen its grip on in-app purchases, based on new analytics data.
According to Appfigures, cited by the Financial Times ($), Apple’s commission revenue in the United States has fallen 18% since the start of 2026. The study also found a decline in App Store revenue in Brazil and Japan since the two countries introduced new regulations.
Separately, Sensor Tower said U.S. consumer spending through the App Store was down 6% in the second quarter, compared to 9% growth a year earlier.
The numbers follow Apple’s admission during last month’s conference call that regulatory changes have begun to weigh on the growth of its services. Apple reported services revenue of $30.7 billion for the June quarter, a record for the period but below the $31.4 billion expected by analysts.
Apple traditionally accounts for 15-30% of digital purchases made in apps in the App Store. However, a US injunction obtained by Epic Games now requires the company to let developers direct users to outside payment options without taking a cut. Sensor Tower said the US slowdown was significantly affected by the move. Apple has not charged fees for U.S. routes since April 2025.
