Apple TV will broadcast the first major live sporting event filmed entirely on iPhone 17 Pro

Apple TV is home to Major League Soccer, Formula 1 and Friday Night Baseball. And this weekend, the streamer just announced that it would live stream the first major professional sporting event shot entirely on iPhone 17 Pro.

Saturday’s MLS match between LA Galaxy and Houston Dynamo FC will be filmed entirely on iPhone 17 Pro

Last fall, Apple began experimenting with using the iPhone 17 Pro to film live sporting events.

The first testing ground was Friday Night Baseball, with the September 26 game between the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park filmed live on the all-new iPhone 17 Pro.

This weekend, Apple will mark another major milestone for the iPhone 17 Pro. It will be used to film the entire MLS match between the LA Galaxy and Houston Dynamo FC.

From Apple’s press release:

This Saturday, May 23, Apple TV will feature a special live Major League Soccer match captured exclusively on iPhone 17 Pro – marking the first time iPhone will be used to capture an entire major professional sporting event broadcast live. (…)

The iPhone 17 Pro will capture live footage throughout the match, including team warm-ups on the field, player introductions, goal angles in the net and the atmosphere inside the stadium. With cameras positioned throughout the venue, the broadcast will deliver the pristine video quality fans have come to expect, as well as dynamic new perspectives that bring viewers closer to the action, made possible by the iPhone’s small form factor.

As Apple says, the broadcast promises to deliver “the pristine video quality fans have come to expect” while opening up entirely new perspectives not possible with larger, bulkier cameras.

The first live professional sporting event captured entirely on iPhone will begin at 7:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, May 23.

You can watch the game with an Apple TV subscription. Apple TV subscribers have access to all of Apple’s original TV shows and movies, as well as its sports offerings, at no additional cost.

Apple TV is available for $12.99 per monthor you can get it at a discount via the Apple One plan.
