Amazon has just redesigned its Photos application for iPhone, here are the new features

Prime members have access to unlimited photos and Amazon has just redesigned its Photos app for iPhone users.

Amazon is highlighting two key upgrades with its redesigned Photos app for iPhone.

First, Amazon Photos now launches directly into a carousel of memories and not just a grid of photos.

When you open Amazon Photos, instead of a grid of photos, you’ll see a carousel of memories at the top of your screen: a weekend at the beach, your child’s first birthday, your family vacation, grouped together and ready to look at.

Tap any photo collection to play it full screen, with your photos switching between them. The app automatically shows what’s worth seeing, so you don’t need to dig through your archives or remember the exact date something happened.

A key part of the memories carousel is Amazon’s On This Day feature in the Photos app. The redesign highlights “This Day” along the tab bar.

On This Day, one of the app’s most popular features, is now easily accessible from your carousel. It brings back photos and videos from the same date in previous years – what you did a year or five ago – without you having to search for them.

Search is the second upgrade to the redesigned Amazon Photos app for iPhone. Amazon says search now uses natural language to clearly describe the content of an image or when it was captured.

Amazon Photos supports unlimited photo storage and 5GB of video storage with Prime. More video storage can be purchased at the following prices:

  • 50 GB for $0.99/month: stores approximately 7 hours of 1080p HD video
  • 100 GB for $1.99/month: stores approximately 14 hours of 1080p HD video
  • 1TB for $6.99/month: stores approximately 140 hours of 1080p HD video
  • 2TB for $11.99/month: stores approximately 280 hours of 1080p HD video

The redesigned Amazon Photos app is available today for iPhone users with a Prime membership. Amazon says an Android version will follow after the new experience first launches on iOS.
