Apple TV offers its best summer programming, here’s what’s coming

Apple TV is delivering its best summer programming ever this year, with exciting new and returning series coming to the streamer. Other premieres are also expected to be announced soon, including the long-delayed The Savant. But as it stands, here’s everything coming to Apple TV this summer.

June

Cape Fear

  • When: June 5
  • What: TV show
  • Gender: Thriller

Based on the 1991 remake directed by Martin Scorsese and produced by Steven Spielberg, a storm brews for happily married lawyers Anna (Amy Adams) and Tom Bowden (Patrick Wilson) when Max Cady (Javier Bardem), the notorious killer they are responsible for putting behind bars, is released from prison – and he wants revenge.


Sugar (season 2)

  • Gender: Neo-Noir Mystery

“Sugar” is a contemporary and unique take on one of the most popular and important genres in the history of literature, cinema and television: the private detective novel. Academy Award nominee Colin Farrell stars as John Sugar, an American private investigator who follows the mysterious disappearance of Olivia Siegel, the beloved granddaughter of legendary Hollywood producer Jonathan Siegel. As Sugar tries to determine what happened to Olivia, he will also uncover the secrets of the Siegel family; some very recent, others buried for a long time.


July

Silo (season 3)

The third season of “Silo” continues the saga of a dystopian society of 10,000 people living underground in mysterious circumstances, while revealing an origin story set centuries earlier. In the present, Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) survives her forced “cleansing” but returns with memory loss as the Silo recovers from the rebellion and faces a dangerous new threat. Meanwhile, in “Before Times,” journalist Helen Drew (Jessica Henwick) and Congressman Daniel Keene (Ashley Zukerman) uncover a conspiracy that leads them into a chain of events with catastrophic and irreversible consequences.


Try (season 5)

  • Gender: Comedy

In season five, Nikki (Esther Smith) and Jason (Rafe Spall) deal with the aftermath of the arrival of Kat (Charlotte Riley), the biological mother of Princess (Scarlett Rayner) and Tyler (Cooper Turner), on their doorstep, and the whirlwind of chaos she brings to their settled family life.


Lucky

  • When: July 15
  • What: TV show
  • Gender: Police drama

Written by Jonathan Tropper and Cassie Pappas and based on the bestselling novel by Marissa Stapley, “Lucky” focuses on a young woman (Anya Taylor-Joy) who left behind the life of crime she grew up in years ago, but must now embrace her darker, criminal side one last time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.


The Dink

  • When: July 24
  • What: Movie
  • Gender: Comedy

Dusty Boyd (Jake Johnson), a former washed-up tennis prodigy, is reduced to coaching unruly kids at his father Chuck’s (Ed Harris) suburban country club. Desperate for his father’s approval, Dusty blindly supports Chuck’s vendetta against the new craze taking over the club: pickleball. But when Dusty aggravates an old injury, robbing him of his ability to play tennis, he resorts to the unthinkable in the name of rehabilitation. Not only does he try pickleball, but, thanks in part to his charming new partner, Candace (Mary Steenburgen), he actually finds himself enjoying it. Torn between two worlds, Dusty is forced to finally face the ghosts of his past sporting failures, including his childhood enemy, Andy Roddick (Andy Roddick). Ultimately, Dusty finds himself drawn into a desperate battle for the future of the club, his father’s affections, and his very identity.


August

Ted Lasso (season 4)

Ted returns to Richmond and takes on his biggest challenge: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking risks they never imagined.


Women in Blue (season 2)

  • When: August 12

  • Gender: Police drama

The second season of “Women in Blue” will follow María (Mori), now promoted to lieutenant, as she finds herself torn between the rules she was sworn to uphold and a relentless quest for the truth when the body of a student activist is discovered and the Azules are drawn into an investigation that dates back to the 1968 student massacre. Before they can understand what they have found, the body of someone connected to that brutal chapter in history is found, sending shockwaves through the department. Someone is serving justice right at the police door, and the Azules are the department’s last hope to stop the killer. As María, Valentina (Natalia Téllez), Gabina (Amorita Rasgado) and Ángeles (Ximena Sariñana) fight battles inside and outside the police station, buried truths resurface and they are forced to confront an uncomfortable question: in a system rife with corruption, what is the price of fighting for their ideals?


Dark Matter (season 2)

Hailed as one of the best science fiction novels and celebrating the 10th anniversary of its release this year, “Dark Matter” is a story about the road not taken. In the first season, the series followed Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton), a physicist, professor and father who, one night while walking home through the streets of Chicago, is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns into nightmare as he tries to return to his reality amid the hallucinatory landscape of lives he could have lived. The second season picks up with the Dessens as they settle into a quiet life in a world that finally seems safe until the unimaginable forces them to flee again. As Jason’s obsession with the Box deepens, Daniela’s (Jennifer Connelly) growing paranoia pushes her to the brink, threatening to tear their fragile stability apart. Elsewhere, Amanda (Alice Braga) and Ryan (Jimmi Simpson) join forces in a desperate attempt to find their way home. While Blair (Amanda Brugel) is determined to stop him, Leighton (Dayo Okeniyi) relentlessly pursues his grand vision of creating a perfect world.
