Apple working on screenless activity tracker, reports Bloomberg. The screen-free health and fitness device would be similar to the Whoop line of wristbands. Whoop makes wrist-worn trackers with 24/7 monitoring, but without a screen.
Apple has apparently been “exploring” the category for months and has developed prototypes, but has not yet decided whether the project will move forward. Apple President Tim Cook and Services Chief Eddy Cue are interested in the product, particularly because Cue now leads Apple’s health teams. Cue is said to be pushing for wearable devices with simpler interfaces, like the screen-less Whoop and Oura Ring.
The prototypes have a strip of fabric attached to a computer module that rests on the wrist. The sensors track heart rate and other metrics, similar to those on the Apple Watch.
The latest Apple Watch models adopt features similar to those offered by the Whoop and Oura products, including an overall readiness score and biological age estimation. A new version of the Health app is being tested in iOS 27.2 and has a more user-friendly interface with clearer instructions than before.
If Apple moves forward with the screenless tracker, it likely won’t launch until at least 2028. Apple is expected to launch wearable AI smart glasses and AirPods with cameras before then.
