For years, Apple has been rumored to be working on a smart display that could rival Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Next Hub. BloombergMark Gurman of , reported that Apple delayed the launch of the device until Siri AI was ready.
The HomePad (as it should be called) would have a seven-inch screen, a new operating system called homeOS and a dashboard that resembles the sleep mode of iPhones. Rumors suggest it will use facial and voice recognition to personalize content based on who is using it at the time. In addition to the ability to control smart home products, it is believed that the HomePad will support FaceTime calls, video and music streaming, intercom communication with other devices, and many other features.
As for the new Apple TV and HomePod mini, it’s likely that these will get specification upgrades so they can support Siri AI. However, recent macOS beta code suggests that the revamped speaker could also benefit from a screen with an Apple Watch-style interface.
October is shaping up to be an important month for Apple. Not only does the company have this latest event on deck, but it’s set to launch the iPhone Duo, its first foldable phone, in a few weeks.
