Apple could launch home security system and service in 2027, says Bloomberg.
The company is designing a privacy-friendly home security camera that will “use AI to monitor the environment instead of actual video footage.” It will apparently work with a new home security and monitoring service, but no additional details about the service are included.
Apple plans to launch a home hub to control smart home devices before the end of the year, and rumors have already suggested that a camera is in the works to accompany it. Early rumors indicated that it would be a wireless camera with Siri integration and home hub connection currently in development.
Apple already offers HomeKit Secure Video, an Apple Home feature for third-party cameras. HomeKit Secure Video offers end-to-end encryption and uses iCloud to securely stream and store video from compatible HomeKit cameras.
In iOS 27, Apple upgrades the functionality of its HomeKit camera. The Home app is able to generate written summaries for motion alerts, and it can also surface highlights and group footage from different cameras. The new features require a 2TB iCloud+ plan or higher, while HomeKit Secure Video requires a 50GB plan or better.
It’s possible that a future home security monitoring service will also tie into Apple’s existing iCloud+ and HomeKit Secure Video features.
