In response to rising component prices, Apple has extended the shelf life of OLED display panels, according to a report from ETNewsciting industry sources in South Korea.
Apple has apparently moved from a four-week display supply buffer to six weeks starting in the second quarter of 2026. The move is unusual as Apple has long treated inventory as a cost to be minimized rather than increased, operating one of the simplest supply chains in the industry.
Deliberately stockpiling more panels for longer marks a notable shift in this approach, apparently driven by a sharp rise in memory chip prices that is spilling over to other components. Purchasing more panels upfront, especially during quieter periods of the sales cycle, will help the company stabilize prices.
Apple has already raised prices on 14 products, including all Macs and iPads, in June. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to see a price hike when it launches next month.
Samsung Display and LG Display remain the main suppliers of Apple’s OLED iPhones, with BOE supplying a much smaller share from China. A display industry official said ETNews the longer holding period is likely to persist and is expected to extend once again the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
