Apple announced a broad set of new subscription tools for App Store developers at WWDC 2026, including developer subscription bundles, group and enterprise purchasing options, retention tools, and a streamlined submission workflow.
Subscription plans and suites
The main change is a new Bundle and Suite system that allows developers to team up to offer combined subscriptions spanning multiple apps for the first time. Previously, developers could only group subscriptions within their own catalog. With bundles, subscribers can purchase access to multiple subscriptions in a single transaction rather than purchasing them individually.
Suites go even further by offering a set of subscriptions that are not available standalone, purchasable as a single subscription. Apple says more details on how to request the Bundle and Suite features will be available later this summer.
The move reflects common strategies among streaming services. For example, Apple TV itself offers Peacock as an add-on for $2 per month, and subscription bundles are generally associated with stronger user retention than standalone plans.
Retention Messages
Retention Messaging is a new tool that allows developers to reach subscribers at the moment they choose to cancel. Developers can provide personalized messages about the value of a subscription accompanied by images and even attach a special offer, without adding friction to the cancellation flow.
Retention messages can be configured in App Store Connect or through a new Retention Messaging API for more direct, real-time interaction with subscribers. The feature is coming this fall.
Group and volume purchases
Apple is also introducing two new ways for developers to sell subscriptions beyond individual consumers. Group purchases allow a single subscriber to purchase multiple seats and invite others to join, with Apple managing the flow of invitations. Each member joins the group from their own account, making it easier to manage group members.
Volume Purchasing offers subscriptions to enterprise and educational buyers through Apple School Manager and Apple Business, integrating with existing device and identity management workflows.
Volume purchases will take place this fall and group purchases will arrive later this year.
12-month engagement plans
Monthly subscriptions with 12-month commitment, which provide a more affordable payment option for subscribers, are now available. Subscribers can view their completed and remaining payments in their Apple account, and Apple will send email reminders ahead of renewal dates, with push notifications available for those who have signed up.
Payment type is available on iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, macOS Tahoe 26.4, tvOS 26.4, and visionOS 26.4 or later, everywhere except the United States and Singapore.
Streamlined submission workflow
There is also a revamped in-app purchase submission workflow in App Store Connect. Developers can now bundle multiple in-app purchases, including subscriptions, into a single submission, or combine them with in-app events, custom product pages, and product page optimization tests, with review status and app review messages all visible in a centralized view.
Support for the App Store Connect web interface and the App Store Connect API will arrive later this summer.
