Apple working to settle antitrust lawsuit with US Department of Justice, reports Bloomberg. Apple has made several offers and is currently in settlement talks with the DOJ.
The DOJ has sued Apple for antitrust violations in 2024 as part of a broad antitrust investigation into big tech companies. The government accused Apple of getting customers “addicted” to its platform due to a long history of anticompetitive behavior.
The lawsuit accused Apple of restricting “super apps” with broad capabilities, limiting cloud gaming, preferring its own Messages app over third-party apps, and limiting the function of third-party digital wallets and smartwatches.
Since the lawsuit was filed in 2024, Apple’s policy changes have responded to numerous claims, weakening the DOJ’s position.
While negotiations continue, Bloomberg says there is no guarantee a deal will be reached. Apple tried to have the lawsuit thrown out last year, but was unsuccessful. For the moment, no trial has been scheduled.
