For those with an infotainment system that supports it, Android Auto is a great way for drivers to connect their Android phone to a vehicle, and Android Auto’s capabilities continue to expand. Google has worked hard to bring new features to the platform, although its latest offerings may seem a little confusing at first. In May 2026, Google came up with a new feature that makes it easier for users to change media, and now users will be able to access a different type of file format.
Released on June 5, Adobe Acrobat Reader update v26.5.0.45958 now includes PDF support for Android Auto. Spotted by users on Reddit, drivers started noticing that Android Auto was providing them with a pop-up warning them that “Adobe Acrobat is installed.” Although one Reddit user joked that the app was now available “for signing documents while driving,” the user also accurately predicted that Acrobat was available so users could take advantage of another useful PDF feature: reading aloud.
PDF support is coming to Android Auto, and for good reason
With Read Aloud, Adobe Acrobat allows users to hear audio versions of any PDF they have on their device, and users can now access this tool through Android Auto. Not only is this potentially useful for listening to audiobooks or even work notes while you drive, but it can also be useful for accessing vehicle service manuals if a driver finds themselves in a difficult situation. So far, 9to5Google reports that not all PDFs will work with the Read Aloud feature, although those that do will display the Android media player when selected.
If you want to try the feature for yourself, just make sure Adobe Acrobat is updated on your Android smartphone. You’ll know the feature is active when you receive the notification on your Android Auto screen. With Adobe providing official support for PDF files, the app now adds to the list of amazing Android Auto apps you can use with your vehicle.
In addition to access to Adobe Acrobat, Android Auto users should expect a few additional features arriving in 2026. These new features include the arrival of widgets, viewing HD video content while parked (including the addition of YouTube), and better integration of Google’s artificial intelligence agent, Gemini. While the PDFs coming to the platform might not be the biggest user-facing update, they’re still a rather surprising but useful addition.
