These refreshed devices await the debut of the revamped Siri. Apple TV 4K and updated HomePod mini are expected to hit stores soon, says Bloomberg. It’s Mark Gurman. In the last To light up In the newsletter, Gurman said that the hardware for both devices “has been finished for months” and is even actively used by Apple employees on its Cupertino campus.
The last major update to Apple’s set-top box came with a 2022 refresh that introduced the A15 Bionic chip and additional storage. Given that it’s the same chip in the iPhone 14, the 2022 Apple TV 4K could lag behind more modern options, like the Google TV Streamer or the Roku Ultra. As for the HomePod mini released in late 2020, it didn’t receive a cosmetic upgrade with a new midnight colorway until July 2024. Gurman reported that Apple might just refresh the devices with its latest chips, so we shouldn’t expect any new features or design changes. However, Gurman added that it’s possible that the Apple TV 4K remote could see a minor change.
For those waiting to upgrade their Apple TV 4K or HomePod mini, you can blame Apple’s rocky launch for its Siri with Apple Intelligence update. According to Gurman, these two smart home devices were supposed to launch alongside the new Siri and had to be pushed back for “many, many months.” Now that the revised version of Siri is expected to roll out in the fall, Apple’s updated set-top box and mini smart speaker will be another way for Apple to show off Siri’s improvements.
