The delayed reboot comes to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC on February 23.
Xbox has shared a lengthy gameplay video for Fablewhich shows what the developers at Playground Games call the Living Population system. It’s about the over 1,000 non-playable, fully voiced characters in the action RPG, and how your interactions with them (and your actions in the wider world) affect how they perceive and react to you.
Playground says these NPCs each have their own personalities and daily lives, all of which the studio hand-designed. Your character (who others simply call Hero) can interact with all NPCs, including befriending them, hiring them as employees, making them like them, and turning them into enemies.
Unfortunately, we can’t embed the video here due to age restrictions put in place by Xbox. However, you can view it on YouTube. This is our most in-depth look yet at the fantasy world of Fable. The video highlights the consequences of choices you make in the branching dialogue system, such as how they affect your reputation in a certain settlement.
It features the hero saving a talking pig and buying a pub before getting a job to earn more money to buy a house and impress a lover. Of course, committing crimes and causing chaos will also impact your reputation. It is also possible to pay the town crier to say something nice about you and influence the perception of the hero by other characters.
This seems like an interesting and complex system that made me want to try it even more. Fable. The game also looks great, as you would expect from the studio behind the Forza Horizon series. After some delays, Fable comes to Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC on February 23.
