The legendary horror villain will rejoin the game amid its 10th anniversary celebrations. (edited)
Dead by daylight is about to reach its 10th anniversary, and developer Behavior Interactive is marking the occasion by adding a long-awaited character to the mix. Horror icon Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th series enters the fray as a playable killer, ready to take out some pesky survivors.
In addition to its original killers and survivors, Behavior has incorporated a large number of prominent horror characters over the past decade, including Vecna and the Demogorgon from Stranger ThingsChucky, Pyramid Head from Silent Hill, Ghostface, Freddy Krueger and Leatherface. Jason had been a glaring omission in this lineup.
The developers of Behavior have spoken openly for years about wanting to bring Jason into the world of DBDbut complex legal and licensing issues prevented this from happening. A lawsuit over the rights to the franchise’s characters also hampered Friday the 13th: the game. However, in 2024, an initiative called Jason Universe has emerged to expand the franchise into “entertainment, games, immersive experiences, merchandise and more”, as IGN wrote at the time.
Around this time, it appeared that Jason was joining the platform fighting game’s roster. MultiVersus (RIP). Call of duty and Fortnite he later brought him into the fray. As such, many observers felt it was only a matter of time before Pamela Voorhees’ big adult son made his debut in Dead by daylight.
Behavior will have more to share about what lies ahead Dead by daylight in a 10th anniversary stream on June 14. The Jason DLC will be available two days later. Expect to hear more about the latest DBD killer very soon too.
