Genmoji suggestions will clog your keyboard in iOS 27

Apple wants more people to use Genmoji, creating suggestions based on the phrases you type on the iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 keyboard and what you have stored in Photos.

Messages users will be familiar with the occasional emoji appearing as a suggestion when typing on the software keyboard. For iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, they can get a lot more options to include Genmoji.

Apple Intelligence’s disappointing feature hasn’t really appealed to consumers since its introduction in 2024, despite executives’ claims. However, with some changes to Genmoji in iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, Bloomberg The “Power On” newsletter says users will be encouraged to use it more.

One small change in iOS 27 will be the suggested Genmoji. Just like existing emoji suggestions while typing, users will also see Genmoji produced using commonly typed phrases mixed in with your photos.

While promoting Genmoji by providing out-of-the-box options to users will help the feature become more popular, not everyone will need to bother with it. A toggle will be available to disable the feature, thereby hiding the new graphics.

Another update

The incoming Genmoji improvements join a number of others Apple has already made to the feature.

In iOS 26, users could create custom expressions, using prompts like “Smiling,” “Shocked,” or “Asleep.” Physical features like hair, glasses and hats could also be added to the images.

Apple has also improved the AI behind Genmoji to create smarter results and higher quality images. Genmoji also supported Tapback reactions.

Whatever Apple proposes, it will be shown for the first time at WWDC 2026 in June.
