Apple simply hinted that a rumored product wouldn’t launch anytime soon.

Apple reported a hugely successful quarter yesterday, and while giving guidance for the next quarter, the company strongly hinted that it was unlikely that a specific new product would be launched very soon.

Every quarter, Apple hosts an investor call where it answers questions related to its earnings and future prospects.

Analysts often try to ask questions about future products. And Apple management systematically closes these requests, almost never revealing anything about its future roadmap.

But during yesterday’s earnings call, there was a hint related to the future product that Apple proposed, completely spontaneously.

During his keynote speech, Apple CFO Kevan Parekh shared the following:

We expect our total company revenue for the June quarter to increase 14-17% year-over-year, reflecting our best view of limited supply. On iPad, keep in mind that we’re facing a tough comparison due to the A16-equipped iPad launching the year before.

Apple was rumored to release a successor to the iPad A16 earlier this year, but that never came to fruition.

After a new iPad Air arrived in March but no base iPad (despite both being released last March), reports indicated that it would still be arriving soon. Mark Gurman wrote to Bloomberg“it still arrives this year and the equipment is ready to go.”

However, Parekh’s comments imply that the iPad A18 won’t launch until July at the earliest, and probably later, as Apple tends not to launch new products during the latter part of the summer.

It’s still possible that Apple will launch the new iPad sooner, and Parekh decried a “difficult comparison” because the product would still arrive later than last year’s A16 model.

It’s more likely, however, that Apple’s CFO highlighted the tough iPad comparison, meaning no new iPads will launch until the end of this year.

When do you think Apple will launch its iPad A18? Let us know in the comments.
