Apple’s 20th anniversary iPhone lineup could feature slightly larger screens than the iPhone 18 Pro models, if a new leak shared on Weibo is accurate.
The prolific Chinese Digital Chat Station claims that the initial display specifications of the iPhone 20 Pro include a 6.41-inch display with a resolution of around 2,686 × 1,236 pixels, while the iPhone 20 Pro Max is said to have a 6.96-inch display with a resolution of around 2,912 × 1,340 pixels.
For comparison, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are 6.27 inches (rounded to 6.3 inches) and 6.86 inches (rounded to 6.9 inches), respectively. These numbers are measured as a standard rectangle, while the actual visible area is smaller due to the rounded corners of the devices. Meanwhile, the resolutions of the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are 2,622 × 1,206 pixels and 2,868 × 1,320 pixels, respectively.
The resolution increases closely track supposed increases in the physical size of the display, suggesting that Apple is likely planning to keep roughly the same 460 ppi pixel density as the iPhone 18 Pro models. Digital Chat Station previously suggested that the iPhone 20 Pro Max’s 6.96-inch display would likely be released as a 7-inch panel if it reached production.
Apple last increased the size of its high-end iPhone screens with the iPhone 16 Pro line in 2024. The iPhone 16 Pro went from 6.1 to 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max went from 6.7 to 6.9 inches, thanks to thinner bezels and slightly larger chassis dimensions. The leaked dimensions for the iPhone 20 Pro models suggest only a modest increase in overall screen size, but there could be a good reason for that.
Echoing previous claims, the leaker claims that Apple is testing a “borderless quad-curved” display design, with the screen curved on all four sides. We’ve already seen several reports that Apple’s 20th anniversary iPhone might look like a single, uninterrupted slab of glass where the metal frames are largely hidden during normal use. Bloomberg reported in June that Apple had begun ramping up work on two 20th anniversary iPhone sizes.
Apple is also rumored to be developing thinner, brighter OLED panels for the devices, as well as under-screen Face ID and potentially an under-screen front camera. However, Digital Chat Station reports that Apple is currently testing a smaller Dynamic Island-style punch-hole design for the iPhone 20 Pro models that resembles the new iPhone 18 Pro models, suggesting that Apple could still be testing several approaches.
The photo/video quality and obfuscation issues with the iPhone Duo’s under-display FaceTime camera offer a timely example of the type of challenge Apple likely faces in its quest to create an uninterrupted display design. Unless it can improve the implementation, a cutout for the front camera could be the compromise Apple has to make for the iPhone 20 Pro models.
