Fundraising for the Malala Fund takes place September 13-19.
Summer is coming to an end, but the players haven’t turned down the heat. This Sunday marks the start of Flame Fatales, a week-long charity speedrun marathon aimed at raising money for the Malala Fund. The event is hosted by Frame Fatales, a community under the Games Done Quick banner that highlights and elevates women and women in speedrunning.
Flame Fatales begins on September 13 at 12:30 p.m. ET and lasts until September 19. The show will be streamed live on GDQ channels on Twitch and YouTube during the week. The Flame Fatales marathon isn’t a 24/7 affair like the GDQ events on the main stage; Instead, each game day starts at 1 p.m. ET and usually ends at midnight, so be sure to check each day’s schedule if there’s something in particular you want to watch.
This schedule features over 50 races this time around, and it’s a great mix of high-level games and fun meme events. I’m particularly excited about the 70 star race Super Mario 64 (Rogue Chaos Edition) Monday evening around 8 p.m. ET. This version of the game will introduce positive and negative effects for racers every time they get a star, key, or cap switch, which sounds pretty hilarious. A bingo race in lockdown Animal Crossing: New Horizons It also looks like it will be both fun and comfortable; this one happens Wednesday around 7 p.m. ET. And as usual, the last day is full of good things, starting with Hollow Knight: Song of Silk and ending with Mass Effect 3.
The group’s Flame Fatales summer event benefits the Malala Fund, which works to advance secondary education for girls around the world. Frame Fatales has raised over $1 million for its charitable partners since 2019.
