It was the best movie on Netflix in the last week of August.
Netflix updated its top 10 movies for August 24-30 on Tudum, and you know what took the top spot? The gaze extended on Grand Theft Auto VIwhich offers you a nearly 30-minute video of the highly anticipated game which will be released in November. Netflix’s deal with Rockstar only granted it a six-hour exclusivity period on August 27, before the developer uploaded the extended trailer to its YouTube account. And yet, despite the small window of exclusivity, it still received 31.1 million views on Netflix and took the top spot on its movie rankings in 58 countries.
After Netflix’s exclusivity ended, Rockstar uploaded the extended look of GTA VI to its YouTube account. There, it has garnered over 17.7 million views so far. As Variety Notes, both platforms count views differently. YouTube increases its view count as soon as a video is played, while Netflix counts a full viewing of a movie as a single view, regardless of how many times it is played in a household. By that metric, a staggering number of people watched the extended trailer as soon as it was released on Netflix, showing just how much fans are waiting for the game’s release.
The in-depth examination of GTA VI features gameplay footage from the PlayStation 5 version of the title. It shows you the combat changes, how the new installment in the series expands its universe, how you can switch between the main characters, as well as the side activities you can do. GTA VI will be available from November 19 and note that it might take you up to 80 hours or more to complete its main story.
