“It’s our biggest, boldest and most ambitious game yet.”
Michał Nowakowski, co-CEO of CD Projekt Red (CDPR), has just revealed that the company hopes to release The Witcher 4 in 2028. The long-awaited sequel was first announced in 2022, but only received a trailer at the Game Awards in late 2024.
“Simply put, this is our biggest, boldest and most ambitious game yet,” he said in a short video posted to social media. “I know it’s a bit of a wait and you’d like to play it sooner, but let the team cook.”

To that end, Nowakowski confirmed that CDPR will not be showing off the sequel at Gamescom, which begins on August 26. It will, however, show a large part of the upcoming games. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs from the Past expansion. This is the third real-life expansion for the 2015 action RPG and arrives a full decade after the second.
The company will reveal “much of the expansion” at Gamescom, including a “taste of its dark story and the new content it will bring.” It is expected for 2027.
For my part, I am happy to give CDPR all the time it needs to ensure The Witcher 4 is as good as it gets on launch day. We all remember what happened during the initial launch of Cyberpunk 2077.
