How to Change Your Home Location on Google Maps

Whenever you return home from an unfamiliar place, you should always enter your home address in Google Maps. It’s like a routine now, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a problem anymore. Luckily, there’s a Google Maps feature that can improve your travels: setting a home address.

Once this information is saved to your account, it only takes a single click to find your way back. Simply tap the Home button at the top of the screen and a navigation route should automatically appear – no more having to repeatedly enter where you live.

The thing is, that home address might not stay the same forever. If you’re moving to another house down the street or to a completely new city, you’ll naturally also want to change your home address on Google Maps. We’ll walk you through how to do this on both your Android and iPhone (which is especially handy if you’ve made Google Maps your default navigation app on iPhone).

Ideally, your Android and iOS devices support changing your Google Maps home address directly from the app. Here’s what you need to do:

1. Launch Google Maps.
2. Tap the You tab at the bottom.
3. Under Your Lists, open Labeled.
4. Look for the Home entry.
5. Tap the three dots next to it.
6. Choose Edit House from the context menu.
7. For Android, drag and drop the Home PIN to your new home address.
8. For iOS, clear your home address at the top and find your new address. You can also tap “Choose from map” to drop the pin on a location on the map, or “Choose from contacts” to use the home address saved in one of your contacts.
9. Tap Done to save your changes.

If you no longer need your current home address at all, you can remove it completely with another useful Google Maps setting in the Tagged list. Go to the Labeled list again and click the three dots next to Home. This time, select Remove Home. Don’t worry, because this doesn’t remove the home label itself, just the address. You can always set a new home address from the Tagged list by tapping Set Home.

If you’re having trouble changing your Google Maps home address from the app, especially on Android, you can also update it from your Google account page. However, the steps to access this page are different on Android and iPhone. Here’s how to do it on Android:

1. Launch your Settings app.
2. Open Google (or Google Services).
3. Tap your profile at the very top of the page.
4. If you want to change the home address on another Google Maps account, select the account, then tap your profile again.
5. Tap Manage your Google Account (or just Google Account).

Meanwhile, on iPhones, you have to go to a browser to view your Google account:

1. In your browser of choice, visit myaccount.google.com.
2. Sign in to your Google account by tapping Go to Google account and enter your credentials.
3. If you’re already signed in but want to update the home address to another Google account, go to your profile picture in the upper right corner and switch accounts.

Once you are on your Google account page, you should then find the home address under the Personal information option. Simply type your new address in the Address field. You can also tap Choose on the map, drop the PIN on your current residence, and tap Save. If you want to delete the home address instead, select Delete. From the Personal Information page of your Google Account, you can also edit and delete your work address and other saved addresses.
