Google’s efforts for the new Google Home speaker finally seem to be reaching a fever pitch, as older Nest Audio and Nest Mini speaker models have started to quietly go out of stock. Additionally, stores like Best Buy appear to have put Nest Audio devices on clearance, offering a significant discount when purchasing these smart speakers. Google has yet to officially reveal a release date for the new Google Home speaker, which will rely entirely on Gemini’s integration into Google Home, another major advancement that the company revealed in 2025 as it continues to update Google Home with new features.
Since that first reveal in October 2025, we’ve been waiting to see when Google launches the new Google Home speaker, which promises to bring plenty of cool features. Unfortunately, all we’ve been waiting for for several months is that it will be released in “spring 2026”. Well, spring is almost here and there’s still no sign of the Google Home speaker hitting store shelves. This could very well change soon, as androidauthority.com reports, Google could launch the new Gemini-powered speaker by the end of June.
Best Buy may reveal release date
In addition to the impression that Google is phasing out the older Nest Audio and Nest Mini, we’ve also seen reports that Best Buy may have leaked the release date of the new Google Home speaker. The report focuses on a now-removed Best Buy Canada listing update for the Google Home speaker, which listed a release date of June 25, 2026, as well as a list price of $139.99 and two color options: hazel and porcelain.
As with everything in this genre, it’s best to wait until Google announces an official release date. However, based on the company’s release schedule, as well as this leak, it seems very possible that we could see the release of the new Google Home speaker later this month. Why it took so long is unclear, although there have been complaints online about Google Assistant being replaced by Gemini in Google Home, which could explain any potential delays we’ve seen since release.
Of course, none of this guarantees that the new Google Home speaker will arrive, and it’s likely that Google will continue to support these older devices for some time. We’ll have to wait for official confirmation in any other respect to know for sure, but given that Google isn’t restocking the Nest Audio and Nest Mini, fans of Google’s home speakers will hopefully have some good news soon.
