It’s pretty hard to learn about video doorbells without hearing a lot about Ring. The Shark Tank alum quickly morphed into a security company that’s essentially synonymous with the term “video doorbell.” It’s almost like it’s hard to talk about robot vacuums without mentioning the iRobot Roomba line. There is nothing wrong with that, however; both brands have delivered impressive consumer technology, and Ring is also a proven name in DIY home security.
Installing a Ring video doorbell doesn’t take much time and only requires a few basic tools. But are you limited to the accessories that come in the box? Not quite. Ring sells many doorbell add-ons to help improve the usability and reliability of its outdoor technology. Many of these devices are even compatible with some of the oldest Ring products ever released; Who says you can’t equip your precious Ring Video Doorbell (2020) with an adjustable mount? The best part: Most of these accessories shouldn’t cost more than $50.
Ring solar charger for battery doorbells
We like to champion innovation whenever we can, which is why the $45 Ring Solar Charger for Battery Doorbells is on this list. Compatible with Ring Video Doorbell 3, Video Doorbell 3 Plus and some other battery-only models, this official Ring accessory also works with select Wedge and Corner kits. Here’s how it works: You mount the charger where you would mount your Ring bell. Then install the bell inside the charger, and that’s it. The Ring solar charger contains three built-in solar panels, and the company recommends mounting it in a location that receives up to 3 to 4 hours of constant sunlight per day.
The product has a 4.1 out of 5 star rating on Amazon, based on over 19,500 reviews, with most people praising its performance and reliability. A handful of customers reported defects shortly after. (Luckily, Ring offers a one-year limited warranty.) This isn’t the only solar accessory Ring makes; you can also purchase dedicated panels if you want to charge a compatible Ring Outdoor Cam, Stick Up Cam or Spotlight Cam.
Ring support without drilling
The $20 Ring No-Drill Bracket is another inexpensive, official Ring accessory that will speed up your doorbell installation. Mounting a video doorbell is not difficult, but not every home or business exterior can be modified. If you can’t drill into wood framing or vinyl siding, no-drill mounting makes perfect sense. It’s equipped with a tough-as-nails adhesive that stands up to the elements. Simply stick it on a building and insert your Ring bell!
Let’s say you’re moving in a few months. Don’t worry: just pull the adhesive strips down and the backing should come off with no problem. Ring specifically recommends mounting on smooth surfaces, but cautions against attaching the mount to glass. This is also another product where you will need to pay attention to compatibility; it only works with Ring Video Doorbell 3, 3 Plus, Video Doorbell 4, Battery Doorbell Plus, Pro and the base model Battery Doorbell.
How is the fanfare? Quite strong. More than 4,300 Amazon buyers wrote in, earning the No-Drill Mount a 4.3 out of 5 star rating. The accessory worked great for most buyers, but we’ve read a few reports of the adhesive failing after several months. For best results, we suggest mounting it under an awning or using it with the next accessory we’ll talk about.
Rain cover for Yaoyao doorbell
We know what you’re thinking: Aren’t all video doorbells waterproof in one way or another? Yes, many are, but it doesn’t hurt to add an extra layer of protection to your home security. The $19 Yaoyao Doorbell Rain Cover is compatible with many Ring and Blink doorbells, but it also works with countless other brands. With its galvanized iron construction, you won’t have to worry about rust or degradation.
One of the main benefits of the Yaoyao case is that it helps protect your camera lens from the sun’s rays. This also helps prevent rain and snow from affecting live views and recorded events. According to the manufacturer, the cover should work with any video doorbell less than 2.05 inches wide. We looked at user reviews and it seems the Yaoyao works with everything from Ring and Nest bells to Reolink and Wyze devices.
On Amazon, more than 60 buyers shared their thoughts on Yaoyao’s cover, earning it a 4.5 out of 5 star rating. Some people had doorbells that were too big for the accessory, but one reviewer made a good point: The metal canopy may prevent your doorbell from receiving a strong Wi-Fi signal.
Riovo Adjustable Doorbell Angle Bracket
The $16 Riovo Adjustable Doorbell Angle Bracket is similar to Ring’s official Wedge Kit, but with a great addition: it’s adjustable. Once attached to an exterior wall, it’s easy to expand or reduce the mount; just pull or push it into position. The adjustment angle is 30 to 55 degrees, which should provide plenty of flexibility for most front and rear door configurations. Riovo also provided all the necessary mounting hardware, including a small screwdriver.
In terms of compatibility, the mount works with many Ring doorbell models, including the Battery Doorbell (2026), Video Doorbell 3, and Video Doorbell (2020). It can even mount a Blink doorbell. Oh, and don’t worry if there’s a little space above the doorbell once it’s secure; This is exactly how the support is designed. This one is a big winner on Amazon, with over 8,300 users writing and giving the product a 4.6 out of 5 star rating.
A three-star review was rather educational; apparently the Riovo mount will work with a Wedge Kit… with a little modification. We also recommend confirming that your doorbell is 100% compatible with the mount before drilling any holes; a handful of one-star reviews mentioned screw holes that didn’t line up properly, even for a Ring model that Riovo says should work.
How We Chose These Video Doorbell Accessories
Choosing a Ring video doorbell is difficult enough, let alone accessorizing it afterwards. But some of the cheapest doorbell accessories can make a big difference in how you use your front door security device. When selecting items to include in this roundup, we selected products that had 4 stars or higher on Amazon. We also took user feedback into account wherever possible and only included one third-party product; the other three are official Ring accessories.
