Popular password manager app 1Password added support for Claude today, meaning the Claude AI service can access credentials stored in 1Password to perform browser tasks.
Through the integration, Claude can use 1Password logins and one-time codes without the actual password being exposed to Claude. The passwords never reach Claude’s Anthropic context, memory, or systems.
When Claude wants to log in to a website, 1Password shows the user which credentials Claude wants to access and why. Once the user approves the request, 1Password adds the credentials directly to the page. Access is limited to the current task and ends when the task is completed. The 1Password team claims that once the password is auto-filled, the app checks to make sure the secrets haven’t been exposed on the page.
Credit cards and identities in 1Password are not supported at this time, so Claude’s access is limited to single-use IDs and codes.
The 1Password browser extension is also updated with Agent Mode, which allows users to control browser-based AI agents. When an AI agent takes over, the 1Password extension locks down so that passwords are not exposed. The password interface is hidden and the agent can only use credentials and one-time codes when the user gives approval. Agent mode works to protect AI agent passwords even if the integration is not configured.
1Password for Claude is available for Mac and subscribers to 1Password’s business, family, and individual plans can use it. A Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise Claude plan is required. 1Password has a help document with detailed information on how to set it up.
Claude can use 1Password logins on sites where Claude in Chrome can perform actions. The 1Password desktop app and browser extension are required, as are the Claude desktop app and Claude browser extension in Chrome.
