YouTube Rolls Out Free Picture-in-Picture (PiP) Globally

After being offered in the United States, YouTube is making picture-in-picture (PiP) mode free for all users worldwide.

Free, non-YouTube Premium subscribers worldwide will be able to use Picture-in-Picture for “long-form, non-music content” on the Android and iOS apps.

To enable PiP, start a video and then exit the YouTube app to continue using your phone while it plays. You will see a small player window that you can resize and move. Tap for play/pause controls and to return to the full app.

There are no changes for paying customers today:

  • Premium Members: Premium members will continue to enjoy PiP for music (exclusive to Premium only) and non-music content, creating a completely uninterrupted experience.

The free picture-in-picture is rolling out and will be available to “all users worldwide in the coming months.”
