YouTube Music adds new tags for AI-generated content
This should make it much easier to avoid the sludge deluge.
YouTube Music just added clear labels indicating whether a track was generated by AI. This is great news for people who like to listen to real music, not weird, slightly tinny imitations.
An oblong label reading “AI” sits directly below the track name, so it’s hard to miss. The label will be visible on songs generated entirely by AI, but also on tracks that use a model to create major components like vocals. YouTube says the label will accompany anything “in which AI has played a significant role.”
Tapping the label opens a menu that provides information about how the AI was used, which can help inform users whether they should continue listening or not. This seems like a pretty simple solution and not much different from how YouTube already labels AI-generated video content on the main platform.
To this end, the classic YouTube app hosts many music videos and related content. The company says these specific labels will also come to the video player at some point.
YouTube Music isn’t the only platform looking to stem the never-ending audio tide. Spotify has started labeling fake artists and Deezer is implementing a filtering system that eliminates AI.
