This quick Galaxy tablet setting turns your device into a second monitor

There are many things you can do with a second monitor that you can’t do with a typical single-monitor setup. Modern operating systems natively offer great dual monitor support, and you can download some essential multi-monitor programs to get the most out of your second screen. However, you don’t need to go out and get a dedicated screen, as the Samsung Galaxy Tabs’ Second Screen feature turns your tablet into a portable external monitor.

To use your Samsung Galaxy tablet as a secondary monitor, slide down the Quick Settings panel and tap Second screen to open the login screen, which displays two options. THE Drawing/Games The option will be selected by default, which is preferable for faster response times. You can move on to Video to prioritize smoother reading if you don’t plan to use the tablet’s touch interface too much.

Keep the login screen open while you take the next step on your Windows PC or laptop: connect to the same Wi-Fi network as your tablet and press the button Windows + K keys together to open the Cast menu. You can also right-click the Windows icon on your taskbar, select Settingsgo to Systemand click Display. Click on Multiple displays and select Connect next to “Connect to a wireless display.” Either way, select your Galaxy Tab from the available devices. This will immediately display a new desktop environment on your Samsung Tab. You can use your mouse to control your tablet and move windows to the tablet screen, and you can also use your Galaxy Tab’s touchscreen.

Tips for Using a Samsung Tablet as an External Monitor

Your tablet now functions as a secondary monitor, but there are things you can do to improve your experience. First, go to Settings on your PC, select Systemthen click Display. Here you’ll find different ways to set up your Galaxy Tab as an external display, the same way you would with a traditional monitor.

For example, you can drag the visual representation of your monitors to represent the actual layout of your desktop. This ensures that your cursor moves seamlessly across different monitors. If you are unsure which screen your tablet represents, click Identify. You can also turn your tablet into a vertical monitor by selecting the tablet screen, clicking the icon Orientation drop-down list, then selecting Portrait. Additionally, if you find that the text and icons on your tablet are too small to see properly, you can use the Scale option to enlarge the screen. Likewise, you can change the display resolution to match that of your Galaxy Tab for optimal visual clarity.

You can also switch between Extended and Duplicate modes by pressing the button Windows + K keys. The second screen is in extended mode by default, which allows your tablet to function as an independent external monitor. You can switch to Duplicate to view a copy of what is displayed on your main screen of your Galaxy Tab. This is useful if you want to show a colleague or friend something that’s on your screen without having to gather in front of a single monitor.

What to do if your device does not support Samsung second screen

The Second Screen feature is available on most modern Galaxy tablets. Samsung says any Galaxy Tab running One UI 3.1 or later can use this feature. This includes all tablets from the Galaxy Tab S7 series or later, including Plus, Ultra, and FE models. However, Second Screen is not available on S6 tablets, although they also benefit from One UI 3.1. There used to be a way to use a hidden feature in Developer Options to make the second screen work on Galaxy S6 Tabs, but Samsung has since removed it.

Like Galaxy tablets, most modern Windows laptops and desktops support casting to a Samsung Tab through the second screen. That said, users with Ethernet might encounter a problem. If you open the Cast menu using Windows Key + K or via Display and find a message saying “Your device does not support Miracast”, this usually indicates that you are not connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Disconnecting the Ethernet cable and connecting to the same Wi-Fi usually fixes the problem.

If you have a device that doesn’t support Second Screen, you can still do some things to use your Samsung tablet as an external display. For example, you can use an app like SuperDisplay to turn your tablet into a portable monitor with a USB connection. You can also use Samsung DeX to connect an external display to your tablet, but this requires a USB to HDMI adapter for wired setups, or a smart monitor or TV for wireless connectivity.
