The iPhone Ultra’s dual selfie cameras could be placed in the same corner

With Apple’s upcoming iPhone Ultra, a question lingers over where exactly the selfie cameras will be located in both the folded and unfolded states of the device – but today we may have stumbled upon the answer.

Dummy units have suggested a top-centered cutout for the selfie camera on the exterior screen of Apple’s foldable, while locating the selfie camera for the interior display in the outermost upper left corner. This presents an asymmetry not typical of Apple designs.

However, screen protectors for the iPhone Ultra that appeared online today suggest that the device’s selfie cameras on the inner and outer displays may be located in the same corner of the same half, with one facing outward and the other inward.

The screen protectors feature a selfie camera cutout in the upper right corner of the outer screen when the device is closed. Taken together, the two leaks could involve a front camera area in a single corner.

Such an arrangement – ​​two lenses slightly offset – could allow Apple to limit cutouts and camera modules to a single region of a 4.5mm-thick chassis, rather than spacing them out in different places, which would suit a device where internal space is limited.

Now, accessory makers typically work from leaked CAD files of sometimes questionable accuracy, so a pair of screen protectors cannot be considered to provide definitive proof of a device’s design. Our reading also assumes that the dummy iPhone Ultra models had one camera placement correct (the inner selfie camera top left) and another unbalanced one (the outer camera centered). Even so, side-by-side internal placement might make sense.

The iPhone Ultra is expected to be revealed next month, with a 5.5-inch cover screen and a 7.8-inch inner screen, the A20 Pro chip, Touch ID integrated into the side button instead of Face ID, and a 5,000 mAh battery, as well as a 48-megapixel dual rear camera system.
