Apple TV has a slew of big-budget, star-packed movies coming later this year, including a new spy thriller called Mayday starring Ryan Reynolds. Here are the details.
Mayday is a new Ryan Reynolds movie coming to Apple TV in September

Apple’s next film will be presented later this month by first-time director John Travolta. But after that, the summer will be huge for TV shows but pretty sparse for new movies.
However, to kick off a busy fall, Apple TV has a new movie it’s calling a “genre-swapping, action-packed buddy comedy that turns the spy thriller on its head.”
Mayday Premieres Friday September 4 on Apple TV.
The new film stars Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh as soldiers from opposite sides of the Cold War who strike up a surprising friendship.
Here’s Apple’s official plot summary:
When US Navy pilot Lt. Troy “Assassin” Kelly (Reynolds) is sent on a top-secret mission to Russian territory at the height of the Cold War, the operation implodes, leaving him stranded behind enemy lines. Discovered by Nikolai Ustinov (Branagh), a gruff former KGB agent with a penchant for American culture, Troy thinks he’s toast – but could an unlikely alliance between the two lead to Troy’s rescue and a bond neither saw coming?
This will be Reynolds’ second appearance on Apple TV, following the excellent holiday film Spirited with Will Ferrell.
Mayday looks like the kind of movie that could be theatrical, but Apple will bring the film directly to Apple TV instead. Despite the huge box office success of F1: The Movie last year, Apple currently has no theatrical offerings planned in 2026.
