Once Advanced Paste is enabled in PowerToys settings, the shortcut Win + Shift + V brings up a window dedicated to the content currently saved in the clipboard. It brings together the different options available and can display a preview of what is there. You can also assign a custom keyboard shortcut to the functions you use most often, so you can launch them without going through this menu.
Depending on the nature of the content, Advanced Paste can remove text formatting, convert it to Markdown or JSON, analyze an image with OCR to extract words, or transform clipboard content into a TXT, HTML, or PNG file. It also knows how to recover the audio track of a multimedia file in MP3 format and convert a video to MP4 with H.264 and AAC codecs.
These treatments are carried out locally on the PC. Advanced Paste also includes AI functions capable of processing content according to personalized instructions. They remain optional and require connecting an online service using an API key, or configuring a local model with Foundry Local or Ollama.
