The Pictonico! turns photos into mini-games. Nintendo just announced an upcoming mobile game that should please fans of stuff like WarioWare. Pictonico! is a free downloadable title that will be available on iOS and Android on May 28. It looks absolutely ridiculous and is certainly an example of Nintendo at its weirdest. The basic premise is that players take photos of their family and friends and the game turns those images into wacky mini-games that resemble microgames in the WarioWare franchise. There are 80 of these sets, and they all seem to distort photographic portraits. There is a game in which players stretch a person’s mouth to eat cartoon food and another turns the subject into a baby with an extremely long tongue. This seems like a strictly multiplayer affair, unless you like taking photos of strangers to use in weird mini-games. We don’t even know if there’s a single-player mode, although there appears to be a score attack mode, some sort of weird divination mode, and a series of stages to go through. This game is free to download, but it looks like people will have to shell out some money to get the full experience. The freemium download does not include the aforementioned 80 mini-games. We don’t have pricing for the full game yet, although the pre-order pages are already open. And regardless, the company claims that photos taken in-game will not be sent anywhere and will remain on players’ devices. Pictonico! isn’t Nintendo’s first foray into photographic mayhem. The company published WarioWare: Broken! for the DS from 2009. This game exploited the console’s camera to also place photos in mini-games.
