Now it’s just a tap to share contact information, photos or videos between supported devices.
Google today announced that its wireless file transfer feature, Quick Share, is expanding. Starting today, some devices can use Quick Share to exchange contact information, photos and videos. Bringing two compatible Android devices together will automatically pop up a prompt to exchange contact information. To share larger files, you can open the share sheet on the file and then tap both devices together.
Essentially, this makes Quick Share more like Apple’s AirDrop. Sharing contact information in particular works much like the NameDrop feature Apple introduced as part of iOS 17. The growing similarity between these tools makes sense, since the current developments follow some recent moves to increase interoperability between Quick Share and AirDrop. After initially adding AirDrop support to Quick Share in the Pixel 10 generation in late 2025, other devices were expected to add the option Apple earlier this year.
For starters, the new Quick Share features will roll out today to the Pixel 6 and newer devices. Soon “soon” the features will come to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Flip 8. Google promises to expand support to more Android devices by the end of the year.
