Google today announced new products that compete with Apple devices like the iPhone and Apple Watch. There are new Pixel smartphones with AI capabilities, new foldable devices, and new wearable devices.
Pixel 11 Pro foldable
The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is thinner and lighter than the previous generation Pixel Fold. It has a 6.5-inch OLED screen when closed and an 8-inch OLED screen when open. When unfolded it is 5.1mm thick and when closed it is 10.2mm thick.
The Pixel 11 Pro Fold and other new Pixel models feature a “HiLight” feature with LED lights around the flash. HiLight glows in different colors for incoming calls or when talking to Gemini. Other features:

- Up to 2,000 nits brightness for HDR and 3,600 nits maximum brightness for internal display, 120 Hz refresh rate

- Fiberglass composite back shell that Google says is “nearly impossible to crack”

Pixel Watch 5
The Pixel Watch 5 uses the same round display that Google’s smartwatches are known for, with an improved brightness level of 3,000 nits. There are new dials and complications, including new generative dials.
The device features more accurate GPS route tracking, more accurate sleep tracking, new Gemini integrations, and personalized strength coaching. It has contextual updates on the watch face, bringing up information when needed. Raise to Talk engages Gemini, with primary actions performed on-device.
There are new one-handed gestures for confirming, selecting, and sending content, similar to some gestures available on the Apple Watch. Google says the Pixel Watch 5 can detect when the wearer stops breathing and can call for help with a new respiratory emergency detection feature.

New software features
- Gemini Intelligence – Google says Gemini Intelligence can perform more multi-step tasks in apps. There’s a new Rambler voice typing feature that removes filler words and fixes repeated phrases, as well as a sign-to-text feature that supports American Sign Language. There’s new location-based insights that show you information based on where you are, as well as contextually relevant suggestions in text conversations.
- Magic Capture – One click saves the video which the Pixel edits, crops and removes blur into a collection of images and videos.
- Camera Appearance – Mirrors iPhone’s Photographic Styles feature, allowing users to choose an aesthetic (Natural, Shadows, or Vanilla) at the capture point.
- Circle to search – Circle to Search works in the camera viewfinder, so you can circle something and get AI information about it.
- Live translation – Google’s new devices translate videos and audio in real time.
- Health Guardian – An AI Health Guardian monitors insulin resistance trends, blood pressure trends, and breathing quality trends during sleep.
Pixel tag
Google also launched a $29 Pixel Tag that competes with the AirTag. It is linked to Google’s article tracking network which leverages Android devices to search for articles. It has many of the same features as the AirTag, with details available in our full article.

Google’s new product line will launch on August 20, just weeks before Apple unveils its latest smartphone models. We expect Apple to announce the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, foldable iPhone Ultra, and new Apple Watch models.
