Miljan Zivkovic/Shutterstock If your eyes feel tired, dry, and irritated after using your phone for a prolonged period of time, you have digital eye strain (DES). When the situation becomes too severe, you may even experience blurred vision and headaches. What usually helps is putting the phone away and giving your eyes enough rest. Even though DES won’t cause any permanent damage to your eyes, it can become extremely annoying and uncomfortable if you have no choice but to feed in situations where you can’t put your phone down. Dmitri T/Shutterstock Comparing phones is not easy. Compare cameras? Even harder. Of course, if you go spec by spec and stack different camera systems by megapixel count, you can declare a winner on paper alone. Today, however, all the best phone cameras use AI post-processing to enhance images, which significantly muddies the waters and leaves too much room for speculation and personal taste. For example, compare a Samsung S26 Ultra to a Google Pixel 10 Pro XL. The former sports a 200 MP main camera while the latter only has…
Karlis Dambrans/Shutterstock Google Pixel phones are generally loved for their bloat-free software experience, proprietary AI features, quick access to Android updates, long software support period, and computational photography prowess. In addition to its premium and flagship Pixel phones, Google also offers solid, value-for-money phones as part of its A series, lowering the barrier to entry to the Pixel experience for many consumers. While there are a lot of pros about these Google phones and many people choose a Pixel over other Android phones, there are undoubtedly some cons to buying…
Karlis Dambrans/Shutterstock Like it or not, your Android phone has an “end of life” date, like any smartphone. The day your device no longer receives major Android operating system updates and security updates is the day you should consider purchasing a new device to ensure you have access to the latest software features and security protections that protect your digital data. The good news is that the longest software support warranties for Android smartphones reach seven years for dozens of models. Security updates are also guaranteed for up to seven…
Yarrrrrbright/Shutterstock When shopping for smartphones, you have many brand options. Some people prefer Google or Samsung on the Android side, while others look to Apple on the iOS side. OnePlus is another viable option, especially for people who prefer high-end Android phones with high performance and long-lasting batteries. Although OnePlus phones are packed with features that people love, you probably already know most of the features OnePlus announces. For example, the Mind Space app that comes with the OnePlus 15 is touted as a robust AI-based tool that helps you…
Images Tada/Shutterstock Google Messages has been the default messaging app on many Android phones and carriers for years, but that hasn’t stopped people from looking for alternatives. Although Google Messages has such a hold on the messaging ecosystem on Android, the app has missed out on some much-needed core features that would make a huge difference in the app’s basic usefulness. Fortunately, Google seems to be aware of at least some of the places that Messages is missing, and the company seems to intend to make changes that will help…
Apple is suing OpenAI and two of its former employees who currently work at the AI company for stealing its trade secrets. In a lawsuit filed Friday in federal court, Apple alleges extensive misconduct by the company it once partnered with, calling its hardware business “rotten to the core.” The lawsuit also names io Products, the hardware startup led by Jony Ive and acquired by OpenAI last year, as complicit in the theft of trade secrets. It does not mention Ive by name, but describes the organization as complicit in a “coordinated pattern of institutional misconduct” within OpenAI. The filing…
Stockinq/Shutterstock Android phone owners who use Google Photos to manage their images and videos may soon notice a significant design change that gives the app a more modern look, in line with the iPhone version of the app. Google has started rolling out the floating bottom menu bar in Google Photos, which replaces the previous menu bar that stretched from edge to edge at the bottom and was attached to the bottom edge of the screen. The new menu bar is detached from the bottom edge and appears to float…
piccinini game/Shutterstock The latest version of Google Chrome, Chrome 150, is finally rolling out to Android devices, bringing with it one of the browser’s strangest omissions: a dedicated back button. This feature has been available on Google Chrome for iOS for a while now, but the release of Google Chrome 150 will mark the first time it will debut on Android devices. For years, users have been able to take advantage of Chrome’s Next button, located in the top row of the mobile browser’s overflow menu. But if you want…
Joni Hanebutt/Shutterstock Originally launched in 2019, the latest generation of Nvidia Shield TV has had a good run, with recommendations for Android boxes continuing to pop up on Reddit all the time. However, this race may be coming to an end, according to AFTVNews reporting. Indeed, the base Nvidia Shield TV appears to be out of stock at many major retailers, with some like B&H even marking the item as discontinued on their storefronts. Even Nvidia no longer appears to be selling the cheapest version of the TV box at…
