Apple today announced that its After the Whistle podcast will soon return for a new season to cover the World Cup, with Ted Lasso’s Brendan Hunt co-hosting with Rebecca Lowe. Here are the details.
After the Whistle returns from June 7 for World Cup coverage
In addition to running one of the largest podcast platforms, Apple Podcasts, Apple has also been the creator of a variety of its own podcasts.
One of these shows, After the whistle with Brendan Hunt and Rebecca Lowereturns June 7 for six weeks of World Cup coverage.
The podcast will feature video and audio and will also be available on Apple Podcasts, Apple News, and other podcast platforms. New episodes will arrive often during the World Cup.
According to Apple’s press release:
The first episode will begin on June 7 for tournament previews and will run throughout the World Cup. New episodes will be available several times per week in the hours following significant matches.

It’s interesting that Apple calls this podcast an “Apple News” show that’s also available on Apple Podcasts. This seems related to the desire to make Apple News a destination for World Cup coverage, but it still seems odd.
On a related note, many of the company’s previous original shows were “Apple TV”-branded podcasts, although they had nothing to do with Apple TV series. These shows didn’t even have video components like this.
All of this is to say that Apple’s strategy of creating its own podcasts currently appears to be a mystery.
