For its big annual meeting, Anker unveiled an avalanche of new products in New York: wireless charging station, robot vacuum cleaner, robot lawnmower, all sprinkled with artificial intelligence, of course. But in the middle of this catalog, one object attracts more attention than the others.
Soundcore Libertad 5 Pro
The Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro and 5 Pro Max headphones offer the expected high-end ingredients: 9.2mm drivers, Dolby Atmos support, Adaptive ANC 4.0 noise reduction and (most importantly) a new internal chip, called Thus, dedicated to local AI processing. With eight microphones and two bone conduction sensors, the unit aims to pick up voice clearly even in noisy environments.
But the true uniqueness of the Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro lies in its casing. The device has a 0.96-inch AMOLED panel and 1.78 inches on the Max model. A true control panel, which includes, depending on the model, an AI-assisted voice recording function already found in Soundcore Work. The brand adds a software layer called VibeOS and a voice assistant to control everything by voice, as well as a translation function accessible from both the headphones and the case.
Another notable advantage: the screen allows you to take advantage of all the functions of the Soundcore Liberty 5 without having to take out the phone. This is also the central argument: instead of duplicating an existing function, the brand gives the screen a mission that the phone poorly fulfills: the discreet recording and structured restitution of a conversation. We may find the use case limited and wonder how many people actually record their meetings. But at least the function justifies the object, which was not obvious.
Price and availability
The Liberty 5 Pro Max is available at €249.99, compared to €179.99 for the Liberty 5 Pro. By crossing the threshold of the very high-end, Soundcore no longer plays in the category of affordable headphones that have earned their reputation. The brand is almost on par with the price of an AirPods Pro (at €279) and is coming to hunt head-on in the lands of Apple and Samsung, betting on a terrain where the big names remain cautious, with an integrated and functional AI, capable of rethinking the possibilities that headphones offer.
