While many iOS 27 rumors have focused on Apple Intelligence, Siri, and performance, a plethora of upgrades are reportedly coming to the Camera app, building on the overhaul we saw last year with iOS 26. There will also be a number of new AI-enhanced editing tools in the Photos app.
Customizable camera user interface
Right now, the Camera app’s interface is pretty staid, with controls only exposed when necessary – and the rest tucked away in a menu. With iOS 27, Apple will allow users to adjust the controls displayed and you will be able to better tailor the app to your needs. From Bloomberg:
Apple Inc. plans to upgrade its Camera app, making the software fully customizable as part of a broader set of UI changes coming in its next iPhone software update.
With the new approach, users will be able to choose which features appear in the Camera app and where they are placed. This includes controls for flash, exposure, timer and resolution, according to people with knowledge of the matter.
These changes are apparently part of an effort to make the Camera app better suited to professionals – with new advanced options added to the Camera app. The control toggle, currently available at the top right, will also be moved to the right of the trigger, according to Mark Gurman.
Visual Intelligence Upgrades
This set of changes is twofold. First, Apple will integrate visual intelligence into the Camera app, in the form of a new Siri mode. This will expose visual intelligence to many more users, which is primarily accessible in a separate app behind Camera Control. Users can also choose to add it to the Control Center or map it to their action button.
Second, Apple will add some new features to visual intelligence. This will include the ability to scan food nutrition labels to record what you eat and scan contact information, such as a business card, to quickly create new contacts.

Building on the Clean Up tool introduced in iOS 18, Apple will add three new AI-enhanced editing tools in iOS 27: Expand, Enhance, and Crop.
Extend is a bit like Photoshop’s generative fill tool. Users will be able to “generate additional content beyond the original framework,” according to Bloomberg. On the other hand, enhancement will make your photos stand out a little more, with improved colors, lighting and image quality. The latest feature, Reframe, is intended to help users change the perspective of a spatial photo after the photo is taken.
There is a caveat, however. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Extend and Reframe “do not work reliably” and it’s possible that features could be delayed or scaled back before a public release. This means that these features might not be revealed at WWDC 2026. If they are, the company could delay them for a later developer beta, or perhaps even for iOS 27.1 or later.
