A new filing in the FCC database has revealed an unannounced Bluetooth headset made by Apple. Here are the details.
Mysterious Apple headphones appear in FCC filing
As spotted by Woozad (via Aaron Perris), a new FCC filing lists an unreleased Apple product with model number A3577.
In the document, in a section titled “Device Under Test (DUT) Information,” the device is described simply as a “Bluetooth over-ear headset” and as having “an integrated battery, microphone, and antenna.”
The filing also states that the information is “prepared for Apple Inc.”, followed by the company’s address.
With most details still hidden under a privacy request, it’s still impossible to tell whether these are Apple-branded headphones or a new Beats product.
Unlike many of its product lines, Apple does not have a clear model naming system that distinguishes AirPods from Beats, with both product families using the same wide “A####” format.
For example, Apple lists the AirPods Max 2 as A3454, the AirPods Max 1 USB-C as A3184, and the original AirPods Max as A2096. But recent Beats products also use the same format: the Beats Studio Pro used the A2924 in its FCC filings, and the Powerbeats Pro 2 filings used the A3157 (left earbud), A3158 (right earbud), and A3160 (charging case).
Given that Apple just released the AirPods Max 2, the filing seems more likely to refer to an upcoming Beats product. The current Beats headphone lineup includes the Beats Studio Pro, launching in July 2023, and the Beats Solo 4, launching in April 2024.
