Apple Intelligence 2.0 promises many new features that I’m very excited about

Apple Intelligence debuted almost two years ago, and for some iPhone users, it was disappointing. But the rumors about what’s coming in iOS 27 sound like a real Apple Intelligence 2.0, with many features that I’m already very excited about.

iOS 27 could deliver the true “Apple Intelligence 2.0” that last year didn’t bring

Last year, I expected a much bigger Apple Intelligence presentation at WWDC than we got. Although iOS 26 offered more than 20 new AI features, it wasn’t the “Apple Intelligence 2.0” I was hoping for.

But the truly next generation of Apple Intelligence, aided by Google Gemini, will soon be revealed.

At WWDC, Apple says it will showcase “incredible updates to Apple platforms, including advances in AI.”

And according to Mark Gurman’s report at BloombergI think iOS 27 will finally deliver the type of features that make Apple Intelligence really important to users.

Personally, I’m looking forward to these five features we’re talking about:

  1. Siri’s major AI overhaul
  2. Photos app editing tools
  3. Custom wallpaper generation
  4. Subtitles for all videos
  5. Create shortcuts with natural language

My Rumored Top Five Apple Intelligence Features for iOS 27

Siri will undoubtedly be the highlight of Apple’s WWDC presentation.

Indeed, rumors indicate that the Assistant is getting a complete overhaul that includes a standalone Siri app, a chatbot-style interface, LLM-based world awareness, hundreds of new agent-style app actions, screen awareness, personal contextual intelligence, support for multi-action requests and much more.

Basically, it’s a new Siri for the modern era of AI assistants.

But I’m also excited about several other AI features that are being talked about.

Photos would benefit from three powerful editing tools thanks to the new Gemini-based Apple Foundation templates. “Extend” is the feature I’m looking forward to. According to Mark Gurman, it “allows users to generate additional image content beyond the original frame. For example, someone could take a close-up photo of a landmark and use the tool to fill in the surrounding landscape.”

The wallpaper generation built into iOS 27 is another feature I’m looking forward to. I tend not to change my iPhone wallpaper very often, but that’s mainly because I don’t have any great options on hand. If the custom wallpaper feature works well, it could quickly become a must-have for me.

Apple confirmed this week that iOS 27 will let you enable subtitles for any video you watch, even when subtitles aren’t provided. This will be ideal when I’m listening to a podcast or in an environment where my volume needs to stay low.

Finally, although Federico Viticci beat them to it, Apple is rumored to be using AI in the Shortcuts app to let you create custom shortcuts, including all-new actions, using natural language.
