Ahead of Apple’s annual developer conference next month, Apple shared an update on how the App Store provides users and developers with many protections. Apple explains how the App Store prevents harm to users and developers Today, Apple released a lengthy overview of the steps it’s taking to protect users and developers from harm. It says the App Store now welcomes more than 850 million weekly visitors across 175 storefronts. As the company says, this effort requires continuous improvement and innovation. According to the press release: As the digital landscape expands, bad actors continue to evolve their methods, often using deceptive tactics to target legitimate consumers and businesses. To address these challenges, Apple is continually improving its multi-layered defenses, leveraging a combination of expert human review and advanced machine learning technologies to detect and stop malicious activity. Here are some of the key data points covering just 2025: Apple prevented over $2.2 billion in potentially fraudulent transactions Prevents malicious actors from distributing malware by reject over 2 million problematic app submissions Apple systems successfully rejected 1.1 billion fraudulent customer account creations Disabled 40.4 million fraudulent customer accounts and abuse Closure of 193,000 developer accounts for fraud concerns and rejected over 138,000 developer registrations Detected and blocked 28,000 illegitimate applications on pirated storefronts, which include malware, pornographic apps, gambling apps, and pirated versions of legitimate apps from the App Store App review rated over 9.1 million app submissions Welcomed more than 306,000 new developers to the platform Removal of nearly 59,000 applications that participated in bait and switch forms of financial fraud More than 22,000 submissions were rejected because they contained hidden or undocumented features; more than 371,000 submissions that copied from other appsturned out to be spam or misled users; and more than 443,000 submissions for privacy violations Apple identified and blocked nearby 195 million fraudulent ratings and reviews to never appear For more details and additional updates on Apple’s latest work related to the App Store, you can read the full article here.
