The iPhone Ultra will bring us closer to the long-rumored iPad Fold

Rumors have been circulating about an iPad Fold for years, but so far none of the planned launch timelines have come to fruition. One of the most recent reports even suggested that it was a “far-fetched experiment” that might never see the light of day.

However, one leaker with a decent track record believes that the product is still in the works and that the iPhone Ultra (or iPhone Fold) will bring us considerably closer to the iPad Fold launch…

iPad Fold rumors so far

There was considerable confusion about what type of device the company was working on. Early reports suggested it could be a MacBook with a software keyboard that opens up to a very large screen. Others have described it as a foldable iPad, and that now seems to be the consensus.

There was a few degree of consistency regarding device display size. Reports variously suggest somewhere between 18 and 20 inches before apparently merging to 18.8 inches.

There has been no consistency regarding launch times, and Bloomberg Mark Gurman threw a spanner in the works last month when he said it might never launch at all.

This device was a priority for Ternus but could end up being a far-fetched experiment that will not see the light of day, according to several people who worked on it.

The iPhone Ultra will take us one step further

Leaker Digital Chat Station published a brief post on Weibo, appearing to indicate that the iPad Fold will share the same foldable display technology as the iPhone Ultra.

Feedback on Supply Chain, Apple and Competitor Wide Folds will also feature clear hinge solutions.

This, of course, would not be surprising at all. Apple will be looking for the same crease-free screen and sturdy folding mechanism for both devices. The news here is simply that signs of the iPad Fold are still present in Apple’s supply chain. That still doesn’t guarantee it will see the light of day, but it at least makes it seem a little more likely.
