Orbitkey Unveils Customizable Grid Desk Organizer

I have used Orbitkey products for years. They first appeared with their award-winning Nest Organizer, which really put them on the map for many tech enthusiasts like me. They continued to make useful, intentional products that I still use today, like their Premium XL desk pad, which features a unique magnetic cable organization system and a second layer for storing loose papers. Orbitkey has always focused on simple, useful and premium products, and is back with its new Grid Desk Organizer. Here’s what you need to know.

This appears to be the successor to the beloved Nest Organizer. At its core, it’s a modular organization system designed to fit the accessories you use every day. As it is fully modular, you can customize it to your specific needs. Orbitkey uses its patent-pending pluggable splitter layout that can be reconfigured at any time. If you’ve ever used those Ikea pegboards, imagine this, but miniaturized. The idea here is that instead of forcing your accessories into predetermined locations, you can create a compartment suitable for your accessories. This way there is less wasted space and you feel like space has been reserved for your accessories rather than the other way around. As someone who owns a ton of small tech like SD cards, small SSDs, dongles, and Apple Pencils, this works great for me.

The Grid Desk Organizer features a layered design with:

  • A customizable main board
  • A secondary accessory tray for small items
  • A lid that doubles as a valet tray

Orbitkey shows in their promotional video how the trays can open like a mini drawer, which is nice, so you don’t need to take apart their entire organizer to access your accessories. If you have limited desk space, this is a great space-saving solution. Some other additional details include:

  • Soft-touch rubberized interiors
  • Soft feet for quieter desk placement
  • Stackable and expandable design
  • Horizontal and vertical expansion support
  • Scalable inserts and accessories
  • Lid handle that doubles as a phone holder in portrait mode

They really thought of everything, and every element was built with intention in mind. You can use it on a desk, in a drawer, or on your nightstand, and you can even split it: put half in your nightstand and half on your desk. It is also possible to expand and add more modular parts. I see them adding a MagSafe charger or Apple Watch tray.

Pricing and availability

The Orbitkey Grid Desk Organizer is available on Kickstarter starting at $42, with options available for purchase. Final retail price will be around $50. The nice thing is that you get everything from the $42 entry-level option, and if you need more, you can bundle. The Grid Desk Organizer comes in three colors: black, stone, and terracotta (I think terracotta is my favorite). The first 5,000 backers also receive a free founder’s gift. Right now they have around 3,750 contributors, so there’s still time.

Overall, I think this is for someone who appreciates an organized space. There are so many small accessories and tech products that I use that just don’t have a permanent place. Orbitkey’s new Grid Desk Organizer really changes that for me.
