FDA reviewing new high blood pressure notification feature for Apple Watch, report says

Today Digitimes has released a new report highlighting two major upgrades coming to the Apple Watch Ultra 4.

But that same report also contains intriguing mentions of a new high blood pressure feature that has apparently been submitted to the FDA for review.

Siu Han writes to Digitimes:

Apple has added a new high blood pressure notification feature to the Apple Watch, boosting the device’s health management appeal… The feature has not yet been made available to the public as it is still under review by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The report does not specify how this new feature differs from the existing hypertension notifications arriving in watchOS 26.

It also doesn’t specify a release timetable, although the mention of the new feature alongside details of the Apple Watch Ultra 4 suggests it will launch with Apple’s next models.

Oddly enough, right after mentioning that the new feature is awaiting FDA approval, Han writes: “The next step is expected to focus on non-invasive blood glucose monitoring and other functions, subject to government approval.” »

It seems that after the arrival of this first-of-its-kind high blood pressure feature, Apple’s next stage of development will focus on blood sugar monitoring, something that has been in the works for a long time. But it’s less clear whether that means Apple has made a breakthrough on this front.
