Dua Lipa sues Samsung for $15 million

Pop star Dua Lipa has filed a lawsuit against Samsung, accusing the electronics giant of using her face to sell televisions without compensation or permission. As first reported VarietyThe lawsuit also claims Samsung is responsible for copyright and trademark infringement, as well as “unauthorized commercial exploitation.”

The complaint stems from Samsung using an image of Lipa’s face on cardboard packaging for its televisions last year. The English musician discovered this around June 2025 and repeatedly asked Samsung to stop using her portrait on packaging. However, the complaint claims that Samsung’s response was “dismissive and insensitive,” while the products in question are still sold to this day. In the complaint, Lipa’s lawyers said Samsung profited from the use of her image, making it appear that Lipa had endorsed the product when she had not. The lawsuit also cited articles about X suggesting that some customers would buy the TV after seeing Lipa on the box.

“Samsung’s illicit conduct made a mockery of (Lipa’s) hard work to establish a successful brand and deprived her of the ability to control and monetize its assets,” the lawsuit reads. In addition to the alleged ill-gotten monetary gains, the lawsuit adds that Lipa owns the copyright to the photograph used on Samsung TVs, since it was taken backstage at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2024. This is also not the first time Samsung TVs have faced legal trouble, as Samsung was one of five TV makers sued by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in December for using spyware targeting advertising on their televisions. We have reached out to Samsung for comment on the Lipa lawsuit and will update the story when we hear back.
